Dental Implants Presentation

What are dental implants?

A natural tooth consists of a root and a crown. If you compare natural teeth to implant-supported replacement teeth, you’ll see they have the same basic parts. Both have a crown (the visible part used to chew food). Both have a root that holds the tooth securely under the gum and is anchored into the jaw. The difference is that the implant is made of titanium – the same time-tested material used by surgeons for artificial joints. When you lose a tooth, you lose both the root and the crown. To replace the tooth, the oral surgeon first replaces the root with a small dental implant.

Time is allowed for bone to heal and grow around the dental implant. The bone bonds with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. A support post (abutment) is then placed on the implant and a new replacement tooth (crown) is placed on top of the abutment. In many cases a temporary replacement tooth can be attached to the implant immediately after it is placed. If all of your teeth are missing, a variety of treatment options are available to support the replacement teeth.

A smiling older man

“Don’t be afraid to Smile.”

For years I’d felt like a part of my body was missing — because my teeth were. My dentist told me that dental implants would make me feel and look a lot better. OK, I said. Now, I’m thrilled. I can smile, eat anything, and enjoy a good laugh with my friends.

Surgical Advances in Dental Implants

Using the most recent advances in dental implant technology, Dr. Walzer, Dr. Sullivan, Dr. Hlousek, Dr. Jones, Dr. Chambers and Dr. Kufta are able to place single stage implants. These implants do not require a second procedure to uncover them, but do require a minimum of six weeks of healing time before artificial teeth are placed. There are even situations where the implant can be placed at the same time as the tooth extraction – further minimizing your number of surgical procedures.

Dental implant placement is a team effort between an oral and maxillofacial surgeon and a restorative dentist.  Drs. Walzer, Sullivan, Hlousek, Jones, Chambers or Kufta performs the actual implant surgery, initial tooth extractions, and bone grafting if necessary. The restorative dentist (your dentist) fits and makes the permanent prosthesis. Your dentist will also make any temporary prosthesis needed during the dental implant process.

Dr. Walzer and his entire team, from the moment I walked in to the office until the moment that I walked out were all kind, helpful, calming and informative. Dr.Walzer and the team that physically worked on my bone graft and implant were incredible. Dr Walzer explained everything he was doing clearly and with visual tools to help me understand. His team explained clearly what they were doing, why, when and what to expect. They were kind, gentle and compassionate. If you or anyone you know who has a need for anything with oral surgery the you should come to this practice for care. You will be amazed beyond belief. I am grateful for all of their care and helping me with my needs.

Dr. Hlousek is the best dental professional I have ever seen and I have seen many, including other oral surgeons. Having oral surgery like an implant or wisdom teeth removed or an extraction can be upsetting, difficult to schedule, very expensive and frustrating. Dr. Hlousek is kind and patient and gentle and listens and he treats his patients and his staff with respect and dignity. His team treats his patients with care and helps us through every step of the procedure. Look no further than his office for your oral surgery needs. He will take care of you until you are healed and make sure you are comfortable, happy and satisfied.

I had an upper left tooth that was bothering me and needed to be removed. Dr. Hlousek and his team were able to get me scheduled and seen in a timely matter. One of his assistants, Jess, was reassuring throughout the procedure and made sure I was comfortable and aware of everything I was about to endure. The tooth removal was smooth and better than expected. The other assistant, Jojo, was great at letting me know all of my aftercare and gave great advice on how to manage my pain. Overall the experience was pleasant and I would highly recommend Dr. Hlousek and his team for all of your oral surgery needs.
