Borek L. Hlousek, DMD, MD
Board Certified Oral Surgeon in Annapolis
Born and raised in the Czech Republic, Dr. Hlousek started his education at the Charles University School of Medicine in Pilsen. His education continued in the United States at Temple University School of Dentistry in Philadelphia where he received his D.M.D. degree in 1993. After graduating from dental school he started his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. His training stimulated his interest in treating patients with dental implants, removal of wisdom teeth, correction of jaw deformities, cosmetic facial surgery and correction of cleft lip and palate. As part of his residency training Dr. Hlousek also completed studies at the School of Medicine in New Jersey and received his M.D. degree in 1996. Following this he completed a year of training in general surgery and gained additional experience in areas of cosmetic surgery, vascular surgery and trauma. To broaden his experience and provide needed medical and dental care, he also traveled to Columbia, South America with a team of doctors united under the organization “Healing the Children”. In the last year of his training he was a contributing author to a professional publication titled “Oral Surgery Secrets”.
Dr. Hlousek joined doctors Walzer and Sullivan in 1999 and became board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2001. He is a member of many professional organizations and he especially enjoys treatment with dental implants, bone-grafting procedures, utilizing computer-assisted technology, corrective surgery of jaw deformities and removal of wisdom teeth. He holds privileges and is proud to be a staff member of Anne Arundel Medical Center where he is currently serving as a Chief of service of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dental Medicine. He also served as president of the Anne Arundel County Dental Society for 2008 and 2009 – a county branch of the American Dental Association. He is one of The Dean’s Faculty at The University of Maryland School of Dentistry in Baltimore, where his main focus is assisting with post-graduate training of residents in oral surgery in the field of surgical placement of dental implants.
Dr. Hlousek keeps up with the latest knowledge pertaining to the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery by attending seminars and professional classes and he is a member of all the national and international organizations and societies related to dental implants and oral surgery. He also volunteers at the Stanton center in Annapolis to provide care for the underprivileged.
Dr. Hlousek likes spending his free time with his wife Kati and their children in their Annapolis home. However, Dr Hlousek’s favorite part of the day is meeting new patients and hearing the story of their lives. Being multilingual, he enjoys reading, music, traveling, meeting new people and making new friends while discovering and learning about the diverse world we live in. Hiking, tennis and motor-sports are also on top of the list.
